As its title implies, this book brings together all the information which the author considers necessary to provide the average chess player with a working knowledge of the endgame. It is concerned with the basic points, particularly those which are most often encountered in practice.
The first chapter describes the elementary mates and can be understood by the beginner. Thereafter the standard is gradually raised in order to include material which the club, county, and tournament competitor needs to have at his command. In the last and longest chapter, the reader is shown how the theory which he has learnt is employed in practical endings.
The author has presented his material in such a way that a reader knowing only the rudiments of the game (e.g. the moves and notation) can progress step by step to quite an advanced standard well within his scope. At the same time, the expert player can profit from this book by using it to revise and widen his knowledge of the endgame.
