Description

‘Chess is 99% tactics’ wrote Teichmann.  This is something of an exaggeration, but tactics do decide a large number of games and many opportunities for combinational finishes are missed by the average player.

This book provides a systematic classification of tactical themes and Kotov selects the most interesting middle game positions to illustrate these ideas.  Complete games are also given in the text and the author explains how the victim allowed a tactical finish to arise.

Alexander Kotow is widely regarded as one of the most profound writers on chess.  His much acclaimed trilogy Think Like a Grandmaster, Play Like a Grandmaster, and Train Like a Grandmaster brought a new dimension to the way chessplayers think.
